"Farah has taught me what it truly means to appreciate the little things in life. Whenever she mentions something that she misses from her life before the war, she would often mention things that are small and precious, such as coming home to a meal and being able to study the whole night. Or being able to do a simple call with her sister.
She also taught me how to not carry hatred in my heart regardless of the circumstances. Even after everything she is going through, never have I heard her say a single word of hate towards her oppressors or anyone that is involved in this. Although anyone else would, her soft heart does not allow her to do so.

Lastly, she showed me the true meaning of empathy. Whenever I ask her why she is upset, she tells me that she can’t deal with seeing kids around her hungry and not being able to help. Her focus is on others’ pain when she is experiencing the exact same pain. I would think that when someone is going through such an unbearable time, they would be so focused on their own survival that they can’t physically even pay attention to others. But not Farah—her heart feels heavy the most because of the pain that she sees in others, more than her own pain."
